Inspiring Nail Polish for Writers

senshi colors
A few years ago, during NaNoWriMo, I decided to paint my nails a gorgeous flaming red, as opposed to my usual boring clear. I thought it would have some sort of psychological "magic flows from my fingertips as I write" vibe to it. Mostly I think it just frustrated me as the paint started chipping about two hours into the month-long writing party, BUT it was still more fun to watch flashes of red on my keyboard than, you know, not.

So when I came across a nail polish last year called "Ink Splatter," I started keeping my eye out for nail polishes that could inspire in their names as much as in their colors. Finally I've collected enough to share!

Inspiring Nail Polish for Writers

“Well Red” by Essie

“Muse” by Revlon

“On the Same Paige” by OPI

“Happily Ever After” by Essie

“Razzle Dazzle” by Deborah Lippmann
(Probably makes more sense if you’ve read my guest post on how the song “Razzle Dazzle” inspires me to be a better writer.)

“Secret Story” by Essie

“Poetic” by China Glaze

“Ink Splatter” by Sally Hansen

(Side note: After writing this post, I checked Google Reader to find that I wasn't the only one with nail polishes on the brain this weekend. SurLaLune Fairy Tale blog also had a post about nail polishes inspired by Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Fun stuff!)

Does anyone else feel like manicures this morning?

So fun! I'm obsessed with orange lately. Might have to try "On The Same Paige." THANKS!

That is so awesome, now if only I could paint my nails, I can't because of work :(

We were looking at house colors just to get some ideas and since I'm not really a picky person I was choosing samples based on their names. Twilight, Witching Hour and a few others, that is so how I'm going to make my final decision, based on the color title :)

This is a really cool idea. I painted my nails Chrome recently and I did feel a creative difference.

Excellent post as always
Arg such a cool post, I love nailpolish so hard! Plus, when I wear it, mine doesn't chip at all so I wear it for about 3 weeks before I have to take it off (coz when the nail grows, it's almost like regrowth when you've dyed your hair haha! A horrible streak of the opposite colour at the bottom of your nail) and I've found I'm most productive both on and off the computer when my nails are painted. I think it's coz my brain coos over how cute they are and thinks, 'Right. I gotta make these babies look good by DOING STUFF! Ya!' And that was the sound of my brain whipping my brain-horses into action. How does one spell that anyway? Heya? Yah! YES! YAH! Kk, problem solved xo

Re: Excellent post as always
I'm so jealous! Mine always chips right away. Maybe I'm just impatient and don't let it cure long enough? Hmmmm.

Re: Excellent post as always
I go through a pretty long/intense painting though, so it works out like that. I put on a base coat (so it will come off easier when I want to remove it and stops the paint colour staining the nail), two coats of colour then a top coat (to stop the chipping). I don't know if it's coz I use OPI which I know chips less than normal or because of my super long routine but it's awesome not having chipped nails! xD Takes ages though. Like, at 10 minutes a coat, that's 3/4 an hour right there, lol

Also, I think between us geeks you can appreciate this. In year 9 I once painted my nails in the order of the inner Senshi's discovery! Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut then I got stuck because I couldn't decide if V went before Moon, making Jupiter last, or Moon went first and Venus went last. It was a very long debate but in the end, I decided that since V was not 'Inner Senshi' until she became Venus - and moved countries - it would have to be pink thumb and orange pinkie. Yuppers ^_^

I love that Ink Splatter black polish. I might have to acquire myself some... despite the fact that I never wear nail polish. ^^

Oooh~ These are interesting! Although, I've never worn nail polish in my life. XP For some reason, I have this idea in my head that it can destroy my nails - can it? :/

BTW! Speaking of art and make-up, have you ever seen this? It's Disney on eye-shadow! <3

Never ever?! Wow - I used to paint my nails a different color EVERY DAY when I was in high school. And then I realized what a colossal waste of time that was, LOL.

They say that if your nails are painted ALL THE TIME it can be bad, because they want to be able to breathe sometimes. But if you take a day or two off between polishes, then wearing polish can actually be good for them because it strengthens and keeps them from breaking. *shrug*

HOLY COW that makeup is amazing! I can barely put on eyeliner. Color me impressed.

Make sure to use a base and top coat and get a quick dry... I never let mine sit long enough and then it smudges and chips easily... ;) If you're really adventurous, go get some Shellac!

My foray into nail polish has been a slow burn... I loved the flashes of color as I played the piano or typed, but hated the maintenance... then one day, like the genius I am, I closed the door hard on my left ring finger, leaving an ugly black blood blister underneath the nail, which took nearly six months to grow out.

My nail painting technique improved significantly in that period of time... Now I have lots of polish and I think I'm adding the Poetic by China Glaze to it. Very fun post and cute recs! (Are these affiliate links?)

I've been wanting to try shellac! I thought it would be great for when I'm on tour and don't have time to stop for touch-ups...

Nope, no affiliation, just my own desire for geeky writery things. ^_^
